Black-chinned Hummingbird Identification

A small, slender hummingbird with a long, straight bill. Adults males have a dull black head and a deep black throat bordered below by iridescent purple (in good light).

Females/immatures are dull metallic green above with a whitish throat and underparts. Note white tips on outer tail feathers.

Perches on exposed twigs to survey territory and chase off intruders. Often returns to these perches over and over.
