- Color Pattern
A largely pale raptor easily identified by its entirely white tail and black shoulder patches. Note the white head and red eyes (visible at close range). Sexes are similar.

Hovers above open areas while hunting small mammals. Rapidly beats its wings while facing into the wind, with tail and head angled down. During the nonbreeding season, it gathers in communal roosts.

Found in grasslands, open woodlands, savannas, marshes, and cultivated fields.
