Fernald Preserve Winter Bird Fest

Join us at Fernald Preserve this winter to learn about the wildlife that call Fernald home during February—owls, waterfowl, shorebirds, raptors, and more. We’ll offer classes and speakers about the many interesting species, and hikes to explore our beautiful winter migration destination.
February 1, Saturday
• 8–10:30 am: Regional duck walk with the Audubon Society of Ohio
• 1–2:30 pm: Raptor ID workshop with Jack Stenger*
• 3–4:30 pm: Ornithology 101 workshop with Tom Hissong*
• 5:15–6:30 pm: Short-eared owl hike
Feb. 2, Sunday, Family Day
• 1–5 pm: Trail and activities
• 3–4 pm: Youth art program*
• 3–4:15 pm: Science round robin and stations to explore
• 4:15–5:15 pm: Natural history concert
• 5:15–6:30 pm: Short-eared owl hike
Feb. 3, Monday
• 9 am–5 pm: Self-guided hike
Feb. 4, Tuesday
• 9 am–5 pm: Self-guided hike

• 5:15–6:30 pm: Short-eared owl hike

• 8–10 am: Duck Identification hike (meet at Lodge Pond)
• 6:30–8:30 pm: Owl Research Institute virtual presentation* (Virtual event hosted at Fernald—attend in person or from the comfort of your home)
Feb. 7, Friday
• 8–11 am: Bird banding
• 5–6 pm: Owl pellets dissection for adults
• 6–7:30 pm: Short-eared owl hike
Feb. 8, Saturday
• 8-10 a: Morning bird hike with the Audubon Society of Ohio m
• 11 am-12:30 pm: Duck identification workshop*
• 2-3:30 pm: Live raptor conservation program hosted by RAPTOR Inc.
• 4–5 pm: Ornitherapy presentation with Holly Merker* (Virtual event hosted at Fernald—attend in person or from the comfort of your home)
• 5:15-6:30 pm: Short-eared owl hike
