A Celebration of Swans

April 1, 2025 April 30, 2025

Yukon’s premier birding festival brings residents and visitors alike out to great swan viewing areas to welcome spring to the north. As some of the first waterways in the Yukon unfreeze, the Trumpeter and Tundra Swans rest and refuel before continuing further north to their breeding grounds, east to Northwest Territories or west to Alaska. About 10% of all the Trumpeter Swans in North America stop at Marsh Lake during the annual spring migration. This mass migration of tens of thousands of swans, ducks, and geese is not to be missed.

The Swan Haven Interpretive Centre, located on M’Clintock Bay, Marsh Lake, opens daily in April, and the hub of this month-long celebration. Events include photography and art workshops, presentations, guided walking tours, campfire storytelling, children’s activities, and more. The centre offers learning opportunities for all ages, exhibits, knowledgeable guides, daily bird counts, and a 500-metre shoreline trail with views of waterbirds all along the way.
