Regional Differences
Ornithologists typically recognize three subspecies, which differ in size and in plumage tones: carpalis of southeastern Arizona and adjacent Sonora, Mexico; bangsi of southern Sonora and adjacent northern Sinaloa; and cohaerens in central and southern Sinaloa.
